I used Readyload film which expired 20 yrs ago for peaceful swan portraits
Shooting wildlife with a large format camera.
–
Because I know this swan family for two seasons now, I am fully accepted and can come very close to them and their nest. They even trust me so much, that they sleep in front of me. It’s such a wonderful feeling for me to spend time with these guys. That’s also the reason I wanted to shoot large format portraits of them. My first idea was to shoot a collodion wet plate, because the swan mum was most of the time in her nest breeding her eggs. But because of the lockdown back then, I wasn’t allowed to stay outside that long. So I decided to shoot large format film with my Linhof Technika camera and a borrowed 400mm Tele Xenar lens on 4×5 Kodak Readyload film. I have my own fridge for them, because most of them are about 20 years expired and some of them are very unique for me, like the Kodak Ektachrome E100S or the Portrait 160VC. Because I like one of a kind photographs, I shot also Fujifilm FP-100C peel a part film (also expired) to get kind of a wet plate experience 🙂
I documented the whole story, inclusive a bad blooper and the outcome of the breeding in my latest YouTube documentary (I guess after 3,5 months its not just a vlog anymore). Into the light – portrait shooting with the horse Annika
Scroll down for English Version

Another portrait, this time I needed carrots to become friends with Annika 🙂 .
This shooting had a very similar light setup as my usual portrait shoots. I will write about that in an article and will let you guys know as soon as it is published here on the blog. Thanks to Julia for this great assignment and the helping hands during the horse-shoot!

Hotrod Shooting – 300 megapixel Analog vs Digital
Scroll down for English Version

Hier die making of Fotos (Danke an Alex dafür):

My task was to shoot a hotrod. It was exciting from the beginning, because this kind of cars are pretty rare here.
Special task: The owner’s dog is sitting on the fender.
If you hear that (from a photographers view), it does not sound that difficult to do. But if you read the circumstances, you will change your mind.
The pictures has to be huge – 100 megapixel are too little. Three times of that is the minimum requirement for the print. A digital medium format camera gives you 100 Megapixel, maximum 200 in one shot. These are not that easy to rent and they are very expensive too.
My solution was to do a panorama (Canon 5D mkIII, Canon 100mm Macro and the Nodalninja), additionally I shot with my large format camera (Linhof Mastertechnika with a Kodak Portra 160 VC)
A panorama with a dog in the picture – Am I kidding? For sure not, you gotta use the right frame for the dog. The more difficult part was to take the picture with the Linhof Master Technika. I had only 1/18th of a Second at F11. But luckily the dog was very calm and patient enough, so I only had to use 4 sheet films to get the job done.
Both cameras delivered enough resolution (about 300 Megapixel)
The Linhof with only one shot (High-end scan from the shop) and Canon with 24!!
After some hours of work, I finished both versions (I had to do a lot of post processing, because the grass was not even, the grill was full of flies, the inspection plate was disturbing in the windshield, one tire had a funny color and the tire treads were full of grass and stones)
Here you can pixelpeep 100% crops of the pictures (Happy to read your opinions in the comments)

I’m so happy that the customer chose the Analog version, it fits so much better to the car. I’m pretty sure, that this cars were shot with large format cameras too back then.

Spaß mit Bienen – fun with bees
My customers know, that it is fun to do portrait sessions with me. Sometimes we create some fun shots together. Animals can do that too, as the bee picture proves:-p
