Nassplattenworkshop (wet plate workshop) in Český Krumlov – Coming home part II

Scroll down for English Version

My recent blog article about the Museum Fotoatelier Seidel had the Subject “coming home” because my 100-year-old cameras are from there and with me, they found their way back there.
This time it was our 4th visit and my 3rd wet plate collodion workshop in the Museum. That’s the reason it feels like a real “coming home” in this wonderful historical Studio. Because of the great cooperation with the Museum (especially thanks to Martin and his colleagues) we feel even more “at home” there.

I did already some plates the day before the workshop – you can find more about that in this posting:
making-of-and-video-workshop-of-ultra-large-format-wet-plates

The Workshop:

I’m consistently overwhelmed with the variety of the people I meet during my workshops. I remember what I was thinking before my first workshop – for sure there will be only photographers there. I was so wrong. From a writer, a chimney sweep and beekeeper to photographers and housewives were always very interesting participants joining my workshops. The beauty of this historical process is that you don’t need any photography knowledge to join my workshops. We are working with a “dumb” 100-year-old wooden box (the camera) that is very easy to handle. The rest of it is just handcraft and you don’t need any knowledge about photography with that. That is the reason, I’m always looking forward meeting my participants. Also this time I was allowed to meet again wonderful and very interesting people. Maybe I will write again an article about one of them on my blog.

It was so much fun to work with you guys. Your results were impressive. Every plate by itself is an artwork. And most important for myself: with lots of fun we created wonderful portraits.

This time it was also the first time, that I was wearing historical cloth during the group shot.

Here is a list of the used equipment, a video, and photos from the shooting.
Thanks to Pro-digital and Hensel for supporting our Workshop!

Making-of and Video Workshop of Ultra Large Format Wet Plates

Scroll down for English Version

With this videos and pictures, I want to bring you guys into my loved wet plate collodion world.
The whole process forces you to slow down (like a natural deceleration) and to become a control freak somehow. You must plan every little thing in advance to be able to master this process. By the way, I travel with a large air sealed rugged box from Explorer Cases, to be save in case auf an accident.

To carry my Insta360 One Camera with me during that shooting was quite challenging as well. Enjoy the short video and suck as much information as you like out of the long 360-degree video.

Generationen: Erfahrung und Zukunft

Scroll down for English Version

Generations: Experience and Future

A photo series, done on a 100 year old camera with an 160 year old technique.
Wet plate photography – without any use of digital workflow – analog – the “film” is poured by hand on the plate and processed afterwards in many steps. Find more about it here (inclusive videos) http://zeitreise.jetzt/

A 12×16” plate shows a portrait of an experienced community member (or a couple), another plate (7×11”) shows a portrait of a younger member and a smaller plate is showing just their hands.
Also single portraits on just on plate will be made like that.

With this project I want to honor our older generation, because without them we won’t be there where we are today and show the younger ones tradition and value.

hanks to my community, Hensel Germany and Pro Digital Vienna for their support.

Until the exhibition (at the Haus der Generationen and at the town hall), I will publish only a few pictures online. I think it is important to experience this kind of photography live. Scroll down to see a little teaser and a virtual tour.
