Day 8 European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (8 Ball Finals)

A lot of emotions today, don’t miss the picture gallery

Quarter Finals 8 Ball

Woman:
Jasmin Ouschan won against Tamara Rademakers and Monica Margeta did a very emotional win against Amalia Matas. Line Kjorsvik ruled over Kynthia Orfanidis. And Gerda Hofstätter over Martine Christiansen.

Wheelchair:
Jouni Tahti won against Emil Schranz and Henrik Larsson against Tankred Volkmer. Kurt Deklerck won 5:2 against Daniel Luton and with the same score Karl Read against Tony Southern.

Men:
Marcus Chamat won 8:3 against Karol Skowerski. So did David Alcaide against Manuel Gama. Francisco Sanchez won 8:4 against our Austrian guy Martin Kemptner.Konstantin Stepanov ruled with 8:1 against Zoran Svilar.

Semi Finals

Woman:
Jasmin won 6:1 against Monica Margeta and Line showed a great performance against Gerda. I saw some great breaks and nice run outs. and so it ended up 6 to nothing for Line.

Wheelchair:
Henrik and Kurt won their matches.

Men:
Marcus won on a hill hill match agtainst David. This was a very exciting match with some great shots from both players. Konstantin won against Francisco 8:4

Finlas:

Woman:
Jasmin against Line. Wow what a match. Until 2:2 both of them did clear the table after the break. After Line did her first mistake Jasmin cleared it again. After her first lead Jasmin scratched on the break and Line came back. She hooked herself on the last ball but did a great kick to escape. As we all expected this match ended up with hill hill. Jasmin won her third gold medal here and is now the first woman who won three gold medals in a row. Congratulations for such a great performance.
And I cross my fingers for the 4th and last gold medal in 9 ball. (Even if you have to rent a truck for the trophies)

Wheelchair:
Another great finals match, Kurt against Henrik. Henrik did some incredible kick shots and it ended up again with a hill hill match. After a safety battle Kurt won the gold medal. Congratulations.

Men:
A big fight against Konstantin and Marcus, instead of a hill hill match Konstantin won 8:6.
Congratulations to team Russia for such a great player.

Day 6 European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (8 Ball)

Zvi Zion of Israel showed today how to come back from 1:6 against Nicolas Ottermann of Germany. Nico had some dry breaks and missed one ball, that was enough chance for Zvi. Congratulation Zvi!

The Kaiser is shooting very well and you know how easy pool looks if he shoots like that.

There were a lot of other nice matches going on and the Austrian guys did very well. Congratulations to our team.

Day 5 European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (10 Ball Finals)

Sorry guys, I am late today, so I give you just a little overview of the finals from yesterday.

Jasmin did it again! Congratulations Jasmin for giving a such a great performance thru the tournament.
Jasmin won, but there is someone I really want to mention. A girl who is new in pool who anyway gave us a great show. She was smiling all the time and infected everybody in the arena with positive energy.Every pool player has a nick name and after this day I will call you smiling Ina or how about Smina? Just check out the gallery and you know what I am taking…
Congratulations to Ina Jentschura for the silver medal!
I am also very proud of Sabrina, with her we had two Austrian girls on the pedestal.
Also congratulations to Line Kjorsvik.

Jouni Thati is the new 10 Ball Wheelchair champion. He played Roy Kimberley in the finals.
We saw some amazing shots there and some bad luck from Roy. Tankred Volkmer and Fred Dinsmore finished

third. Congratulations to all players!

Ralf won all his matches clearly and deserved to be the first European 10 Ball Champion!!
Congratulations Ralf! Also Congratulations to Niels, Vincent and Artem, you guys made this event a great event !!!!

Day 4 European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (start of 8 Ball)

Today we saw some nice matches. Ralf Souquet escaped today on a hill hill match with an incredible kick shot. He pocketed the ball and after that he was shooting a very tough 9 ball to finish the game with the 10.

Ivica Putnik got a lot of support from the crowd (even on every easy shot) and as usual he showed a lot of emotion. He won all the matches I saw and at the end of the day he won also against David Alcaide.

Mario He of Austria is still in and doing good. Go Super Mario go !!!!

Day 3 European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (Straight Pool Finals)

This year was the first year I had the opportunity to see the wheelchair players.
I saw some great matches and cant wait to see the next ones.

Straight pool quarter finals:

We saw a lot of exciting games thins finals.
In the quarter finals I saw David Alcaide playing against John Blacklaw. The “black law” was fighting against David, but lost. On the second table Andreas Roschowsky played against Nick Van Den Berg.Nick had a great start and Andreas was sitting for a long time. But after a mistake from Nick, Andreas came back to the table and it looked like Nick will not be able to resume his run. Andreas was focusing on every single ball, it was one of the most exciting matches today. He froze his cue ball two times to the rack after the break and escaped once with a very tough kick shot. Sadly he lost at the end 118 to
125. Congratulations to Nick for a great game.

Semi finals:

I had one of the best places in the semi finals, I was sitting between two nice girls (Handan and Anna)
and in front of me Jasmin played Kynthia Orfanidis. Jasmin did not play her best game, but she won @
the end. Gerda played Anja Wagner outside, so I was not able to see this match.
David Alcaide defeated Nick Van Den Berg and Artem Koshovj had some great runs against Huidji See. His game looked so easy like everybody could have done that. Congratulations for this game !!

Finals:

David Alcaide against Artem Koshovj. After Is saw Artem winning agains Huidji, I thought nobody can stop this boy today. But I forgot that David Won against Nils with a 125 balls run And he did similar thing with Artem. Congratulations David for a great win !!!! (125:3)

On my left side I saw Gerda against Jasmin.
Again Jasmin was not happy with her game, but Gerda also did some unusual mistakes.
And Jasmin did the same as in she semi finals, she fought like hell. And won at the end 75 to 19.
Congratulations Jasmin your revenge this year.

After the finals I went for dinner with Sagi….lol it was a very long walk thru Zagreb until we found a resturante ;-)

Second day European Pool Billiard Championships Zagreb (The Journey)

Friday morning I was supposed to start my journey to Zagreb. I woke up early and recheckt my laptop
because the screen was flickering on the evening. Now the screen did not flicker anymore it was just
black. I was not that scared because I have a backup laptop. On this one the screen was working perfect
but it started to freeze (ok I have not used it for more than a year….)
Now I was really not happy. I phoned a lot of my peeps and finally Markus helped me out, thanks pal !!!

So instead of 6am I left Austria @ 11:30 am. Driving to Zagreb was easy and after a tiny traffic jam and some searching for the hotel I made it. I arrive at about 4:30 at the tournament arena.
I felt a little like coming home because I saw a lot of friends.
You know I was tired and stressed from this day but you guys made me happy again ;-)

The (most) usual suspects won their matches, lets see what happens today.

Getting ready for the European Pool Billiard Championship in Zagreb

Yesterday was a very long day for me. Finished work @ about 11:00pm and put all my gear together. Prepared some other stuff and went late (or should I say early) to bed. See you guys there !!!!

preparation

10 Ball tournament in Siebenbrunnengasse Vienna

Today I played in a 10 Ball tournament and had the opportunity to test my new lens.
(Canon EF 70-200mm 2.8 L IS II USM)
I did not perform well today but my new lens did.

It is much sharper then the previous version. (you can see the pores of every face under 100% view)
The IS is one stop faster compared to the old version. It was really no problem to shoot with 1/40 sec @ 200mm with my 7D(only possible on sitting peeps). The rest of this pics I was shooting between 1/80 and 1/125sec (because the players are also moving ;-) ). I am not sure if the focus is really faster. I just can tell you it is very fast.

So now to the main question who a lot of you guys is asking themselves.
Should I buy the old version or the new version. I just think if you own already the old version, there is no need to upgrade (only if you have to much money)
New buyers: If you have the money, go for the new one. The quality is prime like.
If you want to save money wait some more days until the previous lens gets cheaper (or buy a used one). You will save a lot of money and you get a very fast zoom lens with IS.
