With this private project I’m going back to the roots of photography. I have been shooting in a digital format since I started photography. In my studio or at different events, it’s super convenient to have a fast autofocus. Live view and tethered shooting to an iPad or PC helped a lot to satisfy my customers and to improve my work. Especially these days, being so stressful and fast. Everything has to happen in a moments notice and nobody takes time for the essential things in life.

It started off as a stressful day and I was already exhausted and I just wanted to give myself a special present. So I got myself that day an analog medium format camera with a manual focus and a standard lens, to give it a try. I had to learn (still learning) a lot about films and how the exposure effects the different types of film being used! One thing I experienced after awhile, is the unique looks I get from people. Taking a photo with this type of equipment takes more time then with a digital camera and that changes the expression of the people in front of my lens. In this 10 or more seconds, time stands still and they are just with me and my camera. It also makes them think and slow down for a moment. That really makes the difference in the shot.

Deutsche Version

Mit diesem Projekt begebe ich mich wieder zurück zu den Wurzeln der Fotografie. Seit Anfang an benutze ich digitales Equipment und ich möchte den Autofocus im Studio und bei Veranstaltungen nicht mehr missen. Auch Live View und direktes übertragen der Bilder auf PC und iPad ist sehr hilfreich für meine Kunden und mich. Wir wissen doch alle, dass die heutige Zeit sehr stressig und „schnell“ ist. Alles muss immer sofort passieren und keiner nimmt sich mehr die Zeit für die wesentlichen Dinge im Leben.

Es begann alles an einen sehr stressigen Tag, ich war sehr erschöpft und wollte mir selber ein schönes Geschenk machen. Also kaufte ich mir eine analoge medium Format Kamera mit manueller Scharfstellung und einer standard Optik. Ich musste einiges über Filme und wie man sie richtig belichtet lernen (und lerne immer noch). Nach einer Weile ist mir dann eines aufgefallen, dass die Menschen sich ganz anders vor einer analogen Kamera verhalten und ich dadurch einzigartige Fotos erstellen kann. Um ein Foto mit der analogen Kamera zu erstellen benötigt es Zeit, genau diese Zeit verändert den Gesichtsausdruck meines Gegenübers. In diesen 10 Sekunden steht die Zeit still und die Menschen befinden sich nur mehr mit mir und meiner Kamera. Es verlangsamt die Situation und bringt die Menschen zum Nachdenken. Genau das macht diesen Moment aus und verändert das Bild.
