Eyecosm – getting close to the eye

Scroll down for English Version

Eyes did always fascinate me. That is the reason, that I did macro shots of them some years ago. But this project is pretty different. This time I go more in the direction of micro photography. To capture eyes that close is much more difficult as I thought in the first place. There is a lot improve, Even the first results are promising. As soon as I get more constant in my work, I will write about the whole process in a well-known German photography magazine.

You can find the first results on http://www.eyecosm.com

Here you can find a very closeup of blue-gray human iris.

Ready to Rock – The Black Proteus

Scroll down for English Version

I shot a concert a Thursday for The Black Proteus. They played a battle against three other bands in the Replugged. I waited with them in the back stage area and put my setup in place 10 minutes before they started to rock. And man they did – it was like a explosion. Alle the people went down to the stage area and started to move with the band. I think it was the first time at this location for me that I heard the people shouting for an encore. No wonder they won the battle and also won me as a new fan. To get an idea what I am taking about, listen to this one:

Ultra Large Format Wet Plate in a Tree – The Cherry Blossom Macro (Or how I nearly crashed my camera)

Scroll down for English Version

English Version

Because the snowdrop shooting (https://blog.markus-hofstaetter.at/2018/03/i-used-two-cameras-for-this-macro-shot/) was so much fun, I wanted to do something like that again. After I saw the cherry blossoms on my tree, it was crystal clear what comes up next. I wanna shoot one of these with my wet plate camera, but this time I will shoot them on the tree. When I was little, this tree was my climbing adventure. This tree has seen better days – the weather from the recent years started to ruin some parts of it. But it is still beautiful in springtime.

To make the blossom more steady, I clamped it onto a light stand:

Because the wind still moved it too much, I stopped the camera down to F 12 and used a 1000W strobe pretty close to the blossom.

I could reach my camera into the tree with my maxed out Berlebach tripod (above 2 Meters). I thought I need an extra table underneath the tripod to reach that high. Because I took too less care about securing my tripod, it nearly fell down two times. But with securing the legs and a counterweight, the Berlebach tripod showed that it is built like a tank and so it held my Ultra Large Format camera in this extreme position. See more in the video.

Wet Plate Workshop Kunstfabrik Wien

Scroll down for English Version

This time I held my wet plate workshop in Vienna in the Kunstfabrik (the translation would mean art factory). This is a place for artists, where you can book painting workshops and other master classes. As you can imagine, this is also the right place to hold a wet plate workshop.

&nbsp
There was lots of space at the Kunstfabrik, beside of the darkroom, we had our own room for pouring the plates and also a large hall for shooting our portraits. It was so much fun to work with all participants and we also created some great portraits. Congrats to all of you for that. This time I show you another side of the Workshop in the following video, after that you get an Idea how much fun we had.
